Aggressive Playing for Women

In the male dominated game of poker, many women who want to play the game end up getting ridiculed merely based on their sex. Many of the styles that men use can be integrated into the playing style of women.

Many players agree that an aggressive style is more effective in poker than any other style. Aggressive playing means that one has to be efficient at betting and raising. A passive style does nothing much other than checking and calling. The reason why the aggressive style is usually more effective is that it gives the player more opportunities to win. If a player bets or raises with a hand, more than likely the other players would throw or give their hands away.

This move serves two purposes. The first one is that a player may throw away a hand that does not mean you are beaten at once, but it could beat you on a future card. Secondly, an opposing player may throw away a hand that has the odds against you.

By playing aggressively, one creates more opportunities to win the jackpot. Even among a table of aggressive players, there are different styles. Some aggressive opponents play using many hands and bet and raise using weak cards.

Some players are more selective on using their starting hands but once deep in a game play them stronger by betting and raising when in the hand.

Passive players enjoy many different styles. There are those that would check and call with their weak hands and some call only with average cards. Many good poker players use a style called as selectively aggressive. This style is very effective and means one has to play above average starting hands but play them in a strong manner. This is the technique used by professionals. They are selective about the hands they play, but once involved will not check and call but instead bet and raise with their hand.

Women generally play a more passive style as compared to men. Women, however, can use this to their advantage. If a woman holds a very strong hand, she may opt to play it a bit passively to allow aggressive male players to plunk down money into the pot. By sometimes checking and calling women can entice players with weak hands to bet your hand for you. By playing in a passive style, you fool them into believing you hold a weak hand and may bet accordingly for anticipating a fold in your hand.

To get the best results at the poker table, one has to watch how people play so that one can determine if the aggressive or passive style is to be used. Be aware of your personality when you play. If players can read your personality, they may be able to guess your playing style and adjust accordingly. Be aware and adjust accordingly.
