Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson is considered to be one of the pioneering professional poker players in history. Doyle's legendary status in the world of poker is truly well deserved. Besides becoming a two time world champion of poker, he is also an accomplished writer.

He was included in the line up of the Texas All State basketball team and due to his abilities as a basketball player, the Minneapolis Lakers took notice of Doyle.

A devastating knee injury however, abruptly ended his dreams of becoming a pro basketball player. Up to now, because of that injury, Doyle still frequently needs the aid of a crutch to move around. This injury however, did not dampen his resolve. Doyle received his master's degree in administrative education in 1955.

The transition from having a job as a machine salesman to becoming a professional poker player happened during his first day at work. After winning a sum that totaled more than one month of his salary -and all that for under three hours - in a poker game, Doyle shortly thereafter left his job and company to pursue a career in poker.

Doyle Brunson's career began when he and his friend, Dwayne Hamilton, started gambling in Fort Worth, Texas.
